The approach is very serene.Don't forget the 2300 runway. Flew to KCDK over the Memorial Day weekend hoping to avoid crowds but still find beaches and things to do. Two hours rental is plenty of time to ride around, shop, have lunch. The guy will pick you up at the airport, and let you leave your cart at the ramp. Look up Gulfcart rentals at Cedar Key. This is an island PRE-Disneyland !! Please don't let progress rob you of the historical value of Cedar Key's Taxi Judy. She is INCREDIBLE! So when you plan a trip to Cedar Key make sure you get her on your radio to pick you up at the airport! You can get always rent a golf cart when you get to town.but you will miss the whole island experience if you don't ride with Taxi Judy. She knows where to go for whatever food you want, who to call to get you the best available rooms if you didn't prebook, gives you a history lesson from the airport to your destination. She was so great! She is just a natural part of the whole island experience. Bring your camera! The coolest part of the entire fly in was our cab driver Judy. Like going back in time to an old fishing island. Cedar Key is the best place to fly in to. I saw lots of dolphins from my kayak too. You can rent a kayak in town and paddle out to nearby islands and beaches. Judy's cab service was monitoring the Comm and offered to pick me up. The runway was in great condition but there is no ASOS so you have to fly over and get a look at the windsock. I flew into Cedar Key on Thursday for a day trip. Had fish sandwiches at Steamers and then headed back. $10 each way is a little pricey for the 4 mile round trip but great little touristy strip right on the water. Judy, the one and only taxi driver, will reach you on the CTAF as you are calling your 45. It's a short one with water at both ends.
